Parents are always welcome to come along to the senior's session. I'd say about 90% of the time parents are there the whole time. Discuss it over with your senior and see if they would feel more or less comfortable with you there. I will always offer photos with the parents at these sessions. Feel free to stop in just long enough to get them settled, have a photo and then go have dinner. It can make a great date night for adults.
Think in layers, movement, and tone. Editorial sessions are best styled with minimal palettes, rich textures, and silhouettes that photograph well in natural light. A refined wardrobe doesn’t need to be elaborate, it just needs to feel like you but elevated. Most Seniors bring about 3 outfit choices. Up to you how many you feel reflect your style.
Yes, often and happily. Whether it’s Minneapolis, MN, or somewhere quieter, I love photographing in both familiar and foreign spaces.
I typically book 3–6 months in advance for portraits and Seniors. However, I always welcome last-minute magic when possible.
This is a big one! Both both ladies and gentlemen: avoid lots of small patterns at ALL costs. Logos and Mascots should be used sparingly unless you’re on a school team and that’s part of your identity! Logos and mascots tend to take the focus off of your beautiful self, and small patterns can moire on camera. If you do go with patterns, which can look fabulous, make sure they’re simple, bold, and big. Text me a pic of anything you’re on the fence about so I can give you good input well before the shoot.
A lot of my clients like to take selfies in the mirror about a week beforehand to ask for my advice on their choice of wardrobe, and I’m always very happy to give tips and pointers. If you do get a new outfit or two for your photos, it’s super important for you to try them on (and possibly wear them for a full day) well in advance to make sure the fit is perfect and they’re comfortable for you. Comfort is key to getting great images!
Try on Outfits
I highly recommend bringing 3-5 outfits to the shoot so we have lots of options to play with. Make sure to bring several changes of clothing, shoes, and accessories so we can mix and match on the day of your session.
